Admissions Open For Pioneering Primary Academy School in King’s Cross

King's Cross Academy School

King’s Cross Academy, a new primary school for the area, is now accepting applications for admissions for the 2015/16 academic year. The school, which has up to 60 places in its first intake, will be located in The Plimsoll Building, a building currently under construction on the King’s Cross development site.

Located in the Plimsoll Building, the Academy will open its doors in September 2015. In its first year, the primary school will have two reception classes for up to 60 children and a 26-place nursery for 3-5 year olds. Over time, the Academy will expand to serve 420 primary school pupils aged 4 to 11, as well as a nursery.

King’s Cross Academy will be co-located with the Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children (FBS), an established Camden school that is currently in a temporary home at the former Jubilee Waterside Centre, close to King’s Cross. The two schools will share not just a building, but enjoy a close partnership at all levels, and the Academy will teach British Sign Language.

King’s Cross Academy is sponsored by the King’s Cross Academy Trust, formed by the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership (KCCLP), the owner and developer of King’s Cross, together with Michael and Clara Freeman, who have a long-standing commitment to supporting schools, educational charities and universities.

The Academy will be a school where children can achieve their maximum potential and also enjoy their learning; a place where success happens within a supportive, creative and exciting environment. Inspirational and enthusiastic teachers will support and challenge children to develop their thoughtfulness, confidence and leadership in learning, while increasing their knowledge and skills. The Academy team will also focus on broadening children’s experiences and tapping into the many learning opportunities in the development area.

The new primary school is to be led by Emyr Fairburn, previously Deputy Head Teacher at Thornhill Primary School in Islington. During his time at Thornhill, Emyr developed innovative curriculum and assessment practices which resulted in the school being recognised as one of the top 200 schools in the country for children’s progress in learning.

Speaking about his new role at King’s Cross Academy, Emyr Fairburn said;

‘I am enormously proud to be the founding headteacher of the new Academy at which our aim is for every child to become a highly successful learner.”
