On Sunday 14 May, 50 intrepid cyclists from Argent and Related Argent set off on a gruelling 400km bike ride from London to Paris, raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which exists solely to support The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, a world-leading cancer centre.
The group, made up of amateur and seasoned cyclists, have so far raised over £350,000 for the Charity and are now hoping to reach a target of £400,000 to help fund state-of-the-art equipment, supporting The Royal Marsden to diagnose more cancers at an earlier stage.
Research suggests that one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, yet only 50 percent of cancers are currently diagnosed at an early stage – when treatment is most effective and more likely to be curative.
To provide patients with the best possible outcomes and save more lives, The Royal Marsden needs to diagnose more cancers as early as possible. The equipment Argent and Related Argent is fundraising for will provide the latest diagnostic technology, expanding The Royal Marsden’s ability to see more patients, speed up the time it takes for a diagnosis to be made and help to minimise the impact of these diagnoses on patients.
A second group of fundraisers from the property firm will be walking 21 miles from Lewes to Eastbourne in June.
Nick Searl, joint managing partner at Argent and partner at Related Argent, said: “This is a cause very close to our hearts and collectively we have already raised over £350,000 towards our £400,000 target for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
“We are so grateful to everyone who has already donated and would be really delighted if others could dig deep to help us meet our target. Every penny will go to this brilliant charity, helping patients and their families to get the diagnoses and treatment they so vitally need.”
Neal Donnelly, Associate Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships at the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, added: “We are so grateful to Argent and Related Argent for supporting The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity by taking on these two incredible challenges. The money raised will make such a difference to patients at The Royal Marsden, funding state-of-the-art equipment that will enable earlier and faster cancer diagnoses.
“We wish the team the very best of luck on their ride to Paris and for the upcoming walk – we will be cheering them on every step of the way.”
