Prepare for an adrenaline thrill this summer as London’s newest neighbourhood, Brent Cross Town, hosts the UK’s first-ever free competitive socialising weekender ‘The Play-Offs’ on 13th & 14th September.
In a first of its kind event showcasing Brent Cross Town as the place in London to participate in ‘sport and play’, sports enthusiasts and eager novices can dive into an exciting roster of free high-energy activities including High Ropes, Wall Climbing, Baseball by The 108, Batak Pro, Bunge Run, Catch It and the ‘Last One Standing’ challenge.
A leaderboard will track participants – who can enter in teams of two or four – determining who will win prizes.
World Chase Tag
Those more adventurous can test their parkour and tag skills against their friends and professional athletes* in World Chase Tag, the centrepiece of the two-day event, and one of the most exciting new sports globally.
To help build confidence and learn techniques to challenge the professional athletes, the local community and visitors of all ages and abilities can get involved in free sessions guided by professional Chase Tag coaches every Friday in the five weeks leading up to The Play-Offs**.
Participants and spectators will also get a rare opportunity to see some of the world’s best Chase Tag athletes compete live in the UK, as the professionals battle it out in the ‘International Chase Off’ featuring some of the best teams from around the world, including the reigning world Champions, Hollywood Freerunners from LA.
Sport and play
The Play-Offs are the inaugural sporting showcase at Brent Cross Town, a new 180-acre neighbourhood being developed by Related Argent and Barnet Council and located 15 minutes from King’s Cross St Pancras via Thameslink.
50 acres of parks and playing fields are being created at Brent Cross Town underpinning a vision to be London’s go-to destination for participation in ‘sport and play’, alongside new homes for sale and rent, offices, shops and restaurants.
The Play-Offs taps into the growing competitive socialising space, with venues in the UK soaring by 40 percent since 2018, according to Savills, and is expected to grow by another 30 percent by the end of the decade.
Morwenna Hall, Executive Director at Related Argent, said: “We would like The Play-Offs to be a new annual highlight in north London and truly reflect our vision for Brent Cross Town as the destination in London for sport and play. We are transforming 44 acres of playing fields here, creating spaces where residents, visitors, and office workers can enjoy a dynamic mix of traditional sports like football and basketball, as well as innovative activities such as parkour and BMX.
World Chase Tag is the centrepiece of this year’s event, and we are thrilled to welcome this community with its global following. What began as a simple playground game has evolved into a worldwide phenomenon played by elite athletes, and it’s on a promising path toward Olympic recognition.”
Councillor Anne Clarke, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Arts & Sport and Cricklewood Ward Member said: “Encouraging sport and play amongst people of all ages and abilities can have a huge positive impact on their health and wellbeing. At Brent Cross Town, there is a whole host of activities taking place this summer to get outdoors and try something new, including the increasingly popular Chase Tag, which comes to Barnet for the first time this year alongside the opportunity to get involved in the borough’s first ever competitive socialising event – why not get a team together and have fun participating!”
The Play-Offs take place in Exploratory Park and Claremont Park on 13th & 14th September 12-6pm. Brent Cross Town, NW2 1FE.
